Metro Magazine Readers Vote Restaurant Local Favorite

(MAPLE GROVE, Minnesota) Dickey's Barbecue has been a local favorite in North Texas for nearly seven decades, but as the largest and fastest-growing chain expands across the country, other communities are sharing their love of Dickey's.

Last month, Twin Cities Metro Magazine readers voted Dickey's "Best New Restaurant" in Maple Grove writing:

"The best-kept secret in town no longer, Dickey's Barbecue Pit has hit the spot since opening its first Minnesota location in Maple Grove last August. It's fast, casual style allows you to get your food within about two minutes after you order, yet it doesn't taste like fast food. The meat is slow cooked and slathered with time-tested sauces, the way barbecue should be. You choose between eight tender meats and 11 side dishes, with the most popular being the pulled pork sandwich platter ($8.75; with two sides and a drink)."

Maple Grove's Dickey's Owner/Operator Jason Stewart said it was an honor to be recognized by the surrounding community for his hard work over the last year.

"We are committed to serving excellent barbecue every day to our customers and I think the care we put into our product shows," Stewart said. "Dickey's is a national chain, but here in Maple Grove I believe people look at my restaurant as just their local barbecue joint."

FAR BEYOND THE SOUTH

Dallas-based Dickey's is growing at a rapid pace opening 30 stores since early 2009.

Fifty-six stores are currently in development across the country.

"We have so many new Owner/Operators who are investing with us. In this economy, we are glad people trust us for success. It is a great feeling to help people stand on their own two feet and become their own boss," President of Dickey's Barbecue Restaurants, Inc. Roland Dickey, Jr. said.

With the unemployment rate at a frightening high, Dickey's and their entrepreneurial partners are offering jobs to many and expanding when other businesses are shutting down.

"Our progress is surprising to a lot of folks, but it makes sense to us. People want to get out of the rat race," Dickey said. "In turn, these new stores are employing hundreds of people who otherwise would be on unemployment."

The first Dickey's Barbecue opened in 1941 in Dallas, TX.

The original location is still open for business and Dickey's Barbecue is still owned and operated by the Dickey Family.

Dickey's only began franchising in 1994, now there are over 110 locations in 21 states. Even today, Dickey's still slow smokes all of their signature meats overnight in every restaurant.
